Charlotte Hornets Foundation to Support Moms Moving Forward Program

Freedom Communities is excited to announce a new partnership with the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, marking a meaningful step forward in the organization’s continued investment in families across West Charlotte.

While this grant represents a new financial commitment, the relationship itself has been years in the making. The Hornets have supported Freedom Communities in a variety of ways over the years: partnering on holiday programming for children in the Moms Moving Forward cohorts, bringing Hugo and the Honeybees to community events, and even visiting the Child Development Center with their Book Bus to inspire a love of reading.

Behind the scenes, conversations between Freedom Communities and the Hornets Foundation, led by Executive Director Betsy Mack, have been rooted in a shared belief in the potential of Charlotte’s families. With new team ownership and a renewed focus on community impact, that relationship has now evolved into a deeper, more strategic partnership.

This grant, which was awarded in March 2026, will directly support Cohort 14 of Freedom Communities’ Moms Moving Forward program — a 12-month, two-generation initiative designed to equip mothers and their children with the tools, resources, and relationships needed for long-term stability and success. Through the program, women build a strong sense of sisterhood, receive compensation for their participation, and remove key barriers that often stand in the way of progress.

For women in our community, knowing that an NBA team is behind them – celebrating their progress and rooting them on – matters,” said Hannah Beavers, Freedom Communities’ Executive Director. “It reinforces something deeper: that they are worthy of investment, of belief, and of what comes next.”

Beyond funding, the presence and encouragement of the Hornets organization has already begun to shape the experience of the women in the program. Recently, members of the Hornets staff wrote personal letters to moms nearing the completion of their 12-month journey – offering encouragement as they work toward stabilizing their families and achieving their goals.

As Freedom Communities enters its next phase of growth and impact, the Hornets’ early investment serves as both validation and momentum. It’s also an invitation for others to be part of what’s next in the West Charlotte/Freedom Drive Corridor.
